Factory Motor Parts Chooses Indagoä WMS to Dramatically

Improve their Operations

Concord, Ontario and Minneapolis, Minnesota – January 2004 – JMO Systems announced that Factory Motor Parts of Minneapolis, Minnesota has successfully deployed JMO’s Indagoä WMS Technology to power their distribution and warehouse systems. Factory Motor Parts is one of the largest distributors of automotive parts and accessories in North America, with over sixty locations that handle millions of dollars of inventory every day.

Indago was chosen to transition Factory Motor Parts from a largely paper-based operations system to a mobility-optimized warehouse that incorporates wireless technology and inventory management tools that increase the efficiency and accuracy of daily operations. With Indago WMS, Factory Motor Parts is able to receive inventory with real-time tracking that allows multiple users to immediately stock inventory that has been received. This dramatically decreases the time that inventory sits on the receiving dock and allows Factory Motor Parts to have their inventory available for fulfilling sales orders on a more timely basis. For a large distributor, this translates into significant financial and human resource savings through increased inventory capacity and speedier turnaround of customer orders.

“After we installed the Receiving and Stocking programs in our warehouse, the managers in those areas asserted that 2 receivers were able to do the work of 4 and that 7 stockers were doing the work of 12,” said Gordy Fredrickson, Systems Analyst at Factory Motor Parts. “Accuracy, productivity and accountability each increased, plus we are able to sell parts as they were stocked instead of waiting for the completion of a 300 page packing slip.”

A key element of the Factory Motor Parts Indago deployment is the use of Symbolâ wireless devices that seamlessly communicate with the host database system. Shippers and receivers on the warehouse floor are armed with wireless Symbol devices that eliminate the need for additional data entry after inventory is scanned into the Indago system.

Since installing Indago, Factory Motors Parts has seen a tremendous improvement in their inventory management, especially in dealing with critical details such as inventory labelling, route sorting, data editing and invoicing. All of these details are now completed automatically by the picking and packing tools contained within Indago.

Indago WMS also benefits Factor Motor Parts by:
- avoiding the need to shut down a warehouse and conduct a manual inventory;
- incorporating multiple redundancies to double check all scanned items in the warehouse;
- saving time by printing carton labels that also provide an accurate carton count; and,
- pre-printing driver manifests which results in faster delivery times to the customer.

“Indago offered a highly flexible and scaleable warehouse management system designed specifically to meet the business objectives required by Factory Motor Parts both today and in the future,” added Mark Fronczak, vice-president of JMO Systems.
